Workshop of business training

I have been living overseas for long time. With the courtesy of Gilbert’s (General Manager Chen) invitation, I went back to Taiwan to participate the business training workshop at Yenom Technology Service Inc. It was indeed a very precious opportunity and also an extreme pleasure!

Originally I thought it was just a simple business meeting and product introduction.  Surprisingly Gilbert & Anita organized the human resources from entire company (including headquarters and branch). They collected operating procedures and all relevant information to discuss very thoroughly about the company’s profile, production equipments, process descriptions and the market development in the future. Participants are not only high level supervisors of YTSI and PSI, me and Nick (one new blood just returned from Australia), but also including four fresh members. Although this is the first time to hold such a large sales seminar for five days, it really left us deep and indelible memories!

The first morning, with Gilbert’s kick-off, he introduced the history of company's development process, status scales, configuration of equipments and personnel …, and so on in details. On October 1, 1999, he founded the company from ground zero. Currently there are nearly six hundred employees and seven SMT production lines in two factories.  The monthly production output scales of assemblies exceed 270,000 sets. Every link of growth has fully revealed of personal execution and leadership strength of Gilbert. He is very close to his staff. Everything is bound to take the lead and set a good example of leadership style. He especially takes care of all the families of employees. That is the only reason to cause all colleagues to work together with one goal, and it is the biggest motive power for rapid growth of the company. Then, he guided us to production lines, warehouses and all departments. In the afternoon, the sales chief, Ray hosted the meeting to introduce service procedure of new customers and the new order process. All the materials were presented by the evidence of ISO standards with SOP, and explained very coherently.

Peter presided over the meeting next morning. Peter was responsible for explaining SMT and DIP detailed production processes. SMT and DIP are technical operations center of PCBA. Peter used his excellent experiences and skills, in addition to a plentiful knowledge to explain for us. He showed all charts about each machine’s capacity, calibration, and maintenance in 100% English and also with easy language to make us understand quickly.  Gary was responsible for the meeting in the afternoon. He continued to explain the testing, assembly, packaging of the "system process". Gary is a humorous man, but meticulous in work.  He has a pair of spirited eyes on the dark face. He is very strict with the engineering, testing, quality assurance and production technology. Therefore his department can always keep higher than 96% accuracy rate in every year.

The third day was opened by the sales account manager Roymend. The sales department is the window of the company to communicate and contact with the customers. All operations should not be mistaken. Roymend used the ISO SOP by stages to explain new order quotation, OEM / on turnkey of the material quotation, sub-materials operations, ERP systems, ECN / ECR operation, and plan orders process. Due to her neat and tidy description, we could understand easily. Ben, on behalf of the marketing department explained the importance concept of "marketing is an extension of the R&D" in the afternoon. He emphasized the importance of transparency and rapid contact with customers. Gilbert then personally led everyone to the workshop once again, from the incoming inspection, storage, material preparation, SMT, DIP, testing, assembly, packaging, to shipping. After three days of workshops, we experienced and understood more deeply and effectively from this trip.

On the fourth day, Maggie introduced the operational procedures of production control for us. She explained the functions and benefits of all various statements and reports. Then Peter continued to explain the concept, operating standards, and operational practices of quality assurance department. In the afternoon, Rich took the turn. He went on stage and explained the standard operating procedure (SOP) of purchase, purchasing flow, steps, and how to communication with other departments. Procurement is the guardian of the company notecase. He pursued the goal of "How to reduce costs" in his work.

In a moment of blink, the workshop went into the fifth day and also the last day. Danny started in the morning to introduce the operating procedures of the material control. The materials are in general classified into customer-supply and self-supply. Danny explained warehouse management in very details. He started from the main warehouse to the IQC receiving, inspection, ERP systems, customer kitting, receive the goods until site positions.  Gilbert played again after lunch, he started with a new vision of the company: "The Guardian of Low Volume and High Mix". He declared very clearly and assuredly several major objectives for the future.
(A) Marketing:
      1. USA, Japan, Europe in next 3 years.
      2. EMS in next 10 years.
      3. Design team for ODM in 2012.

After listening to Gilbert's conclusion, I shared some words all colleagues : "Congratulations, you guys have already had a best leader; a most efficient team; and struggle with the most clear indicators." Gilbert always does what he says. I believe he must be able to lead all members to achieve goal step by step.

A short period of five days and shortly after. In such a short time, I am very fortunate having this opportunity to learn the knowledge, and also to meet many lovely and serious working partners. Thanks for all the efforts of heads of each department to collect data.  Thanks for Anita’s work to organize and compile the courses. Thanks for Gilbert’s invitation and guidance in this field. This is a hundred percent successful workshops of business training.
